Comparison of the Funtrailer with the Tandem

The Fun Trailer pull along is the perfect solution for that phase when children are too big and active for bike trailers (normally at the age of around 3) but are still too young to cope with traffic or are unable to keep up on long bike routes.

In most cases the Funtrailer takes over once a children’s trailer is no longer feasible. Here are some of the advantages and disadvantages of a trailer for children over 4 years of age:

A bike trailer tends to weigh between 13 and 18 kilos which makes it markedly heavier than a Funtrailer (8 to 10 kilos).

The child cannot communicate so easily with its parents in the trailer.

The child often gets bored in the trailer (or fights with his/her siblings when you have a two seated trailer!) and doesn’t have much of a view. With the Funtrailer your child can join in with the pedalling or get pulled along.

The child is protected from the elements in the bike trailer (although in summer it’s often too hot because the covering has to be kept on to protect the child from flying debris on stony paths). With the Funtrailer waterproof clothing is a must when the weather is poor.

A child can also take a nap in the trailer whereas this is not possible with the Funtrailer. Children who need their midday siesta shouldn’t be taken out on the Funtrailer at this time of day or only with particular vigilance on the adult’s behalf…).

The Funtrailer’s luggage rack can only support 2 luggage bags. Funtrailers have different sizes of luggage rack. With the Funtrailer the luggage rack on the adult’s bike can also support side saddle-bags but extra material (such as a tent) cannot be added on top.

From our own experience we can say that nearly every child would choose a concept like the Funtrailer over a bike trailer every time.
